No matter how small your
organisation, it cannot survive without planning. Managing any business is
complicated and a voluntary organisation is still a business. A plan for the
organisation gives everyone, managers, staff, volunteers and stakeholders, a
clear idea of what it is trying to achieve and how to set about doing it. |
The manager of a small or voluntary
organisation should spend time and effort on creating this plan. If you
cannot do this successfully, your organisation may flourish for a time and
then decline. This unit takes you through all the basics necessary to produce
a simple plan, which you can build on as you grow more confident. |
The Unit comprises: |
Book One: Theory and Exercises |
1. What do you
know about your own organisation? (helping you identify the real work of your
organisation, preparation) |
2. Why Plan? Your own experience (recognising your
approach to planning, setting goals, priorities and planning) |
3. Why do we need
a plan? (where are we now? deciding what is important, ordering essentials) |
4. Where do we
start? (identifying key words, consulting stakeholders, writing the mission statement)
5. What does a
good plan look like? (the SWOT analysis, identifying the core business,
identifying objectives, identifying constraints) |
6. Involving staff
(securing co-operation of staff and volunteers, influencing staff) |
7. Involving stakeholders
(identifying stakeholders, involving stakeholders) |
