Good communication is at the heart of
any successful organisation. Misunderstandings easily arise and in a small
organisation or unit serious problems can develop among staff. It requires
time and effort to ensure that communication is effective, but implementation
of the various strategies outlined in this unit will bring major benefits. |
This
unit deals with the communication ‘bones’ of any organisation: letters,
reports, internal communications and meetings; but also addresses the
increasing use of e-mail as a communication tool. |
The Unit comprises: |
Book One: Theory and Exercises |
1. Round and
round – effective internal
communication (internal communications, assessing the value of different
forms of communication, the role of the manager in communication, evaluating
your own communication skills) |
2. Writing the
right letter (reasons for writing letters, the structure and language of
letters, the informal letter) |
3. Not another
meeting? (types of meeting, planning the meeting, recording the meeting,
closing the feedback loop) |
4. Report writing
(key purposes, resources, preparing the information, structuring a simple
report) |
5. Making
presentations (planning a presentation, effective speaking, effective
delivery, using visual aids, coping with the unexpected) |
6. Communicating
information and instructions(planning an instruction, verbal versus written
instructions, using visual materials, informing volunteers) |
7. E-mails and
other distractions (using e-mail, evaluating the use of e-mail,
text-messaging, other forms of communication) |
