Unit Six: the pursuit of time
ISBN
978-1-85450-329-9 by Myra Duffy and Sheila Ritchie |
part of Managing a Small Organisation Full
set of eight titles ISBN 978-1-85450-354-1 |
Time is the
most scarce resource in small and voluntary organisations. There are rarely enough staff to do
the work, but often it is because staff have had little training in time management
and few opportunities to practice any knowledge they have acquired. |
Time
management is not only about individuals managing time well, it is about an
organisation working as a team to identify the best use of what is available
and recognising that there are times when certain things have to be let go. |
This unit allows you to identify
“time wasters”, to judge your own time management skills and to find ways to
improve your use of the limited time at your disposal. |
The Unit comprises: |
Book One: Theory and Exercises |
1. Why Manage
Time? (thinking about ‘time’, managing your own time) |
2. Where does Time
Go? (use and misuse of time, time wasters, recording time) |
3. Time ... Yours
and other People’s (skills of delegation, communication as a time saver,
helping others to help themselves) |
4. Use it or Lose
it (controlling time, the need for focus, urgency versus importance, coping
with unpleasant tasks) |
5. One at a Time
(selecting appropriate projects, developing a project strategy, setting
priorities, allocating time to projects) |
6. Saving time,
good habits (using a diary, organising workspace, controlling paperwork) |
7. End of Unit
Checklist. |
Book Two: Answers to the Exercises and Five Minute prompts |
