Introduction to Tutor’s Pack

This tutor's pack contains a collection of materials, slides/OHPs, exercises and assignments designed for use by tutors and students in conjunction with the book Tourism and Leisure in the Countryside.  For ease of use, the exercises are set out under the book's chapter headings and, in most cases, the appropriate chapter or section should be read by students prior to undertaking the exercises. Two of the case studies are unique to the Tutor’s Pack

Each section of this pack contains exercises that vary in length and complexity and which may be used in a variety of ways and at different levels.  The emphasis is on student participation and student-centred learning, but essay titles are also suggested for where a more formal academic approach to the subject is adopted.  The exercises include:

i        Informal class activities;

ii       Role-play exercises;

iii      Informal group/individual presentations;

iv       Skills development;

v        Formal written and/or oral assessment work.

Tourism and leisure in the countryside is all about experiencing the countryside and is not a subject that can be taught in the traditional sense.  A number of exercises that require students to participate in live research in the field, applying theoretical knowledge to practical problems, have, therefore, been included.

This tutor's pack is designed to cover a complete course in tourism in the countryside, either a full academic year or a one-semester course.  The materials contained in this pack are suggested exercises and assignments.  They may be used as presented here, but it is hoped that they will be adapted by tutors to suit different levels, class sizes, student needs and teaching and learning strategies.
